ISLAMABAD: Islamabad’s people have expressed concern over an increase in pollution-related diseases, particularly chronic cough, caused by exposure to irritants prevalent in the air, as a result of dry and cold weather and numerous ongoing mega projects in the federal capital.
The number of admissions to pulmonology wards at government hospitals has doubled as a result of pollution and the ongoing dry weather, while an outdoor patient department at a state-owned hospital ran out of room as a result of a significant influx of patients.
Analysts claim that air pollution, cold temperatures, dry weather, and “irrational usage of medications” are to blame for the rise in lung ailments. They said that over time, these elements had combined in a “lethal combination,” negatively affecting the citizens’ health.
