NEW YORK: A legally apparatus that addresses the interests of all nations would be the finest option to deal with growing cyber threats to global security and peace, Pakistan’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations has told a UNSC’s “Arria-Formula” meeting.
Pakistan’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations said that cyber assaults are taking place, with overwhelming impact on infrastructure and societies. Against this background, the envoy said, ensuring the peaceful use of information and communication technologies and averting cyber warfare was a critical issue.
Islamabad Urges Legal Measures to Combat Cyber Threats to Global Peace
The United States (US) and Albania called the Council session on ‘Responsibility and Responsiveness of States to Cyberattacks on Critical Infrastructure’. In his remarks, Aamir Khan said that the UNSC would not be able to say on the issues posed by the cyber-attacks as it “presently suffers from a paralysis”.
He said that only a legally instrument can address the specific situation that address the interests of all countries would be the best way onward. He maintained that capacity-building was needed to enable all member nations to answer effectively to cyberspace issues and challenges.
He further maintained that they called upon the world, especially the developed world, to provide unconditional and fair technical help, capacity-building assistance, and technology transfers to help nations, especially those with limited resources, in strengthening their cybersecurity structure.
