ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police have announced that the recent Margalla Hills rape incident, which led to an arrest, was a “false story” concocted out of personal enmity, according to their investigation.

The police had registered a First Information Report (FIR) on Friday regarding the alleged rape of a woman on one of the hiking trails in Margalla Hills, Islamabad. However, in a statement released today, the police stated that the suspect had a dispute with his colleague, who then sought revenge by fabricating the rape incident.

According to the police, the colleague contacted a group member residing in Rawalpindi to falsely accuse the suspect of rape. The group member then contacted the supposed victim from Sheikhupura, and together, they planned a “rape drama” involving the suspect. The plan entailed the victim pretending to be raped and screaming on Trail 3 while the group recorded videos to later blackmail and extort the suspect and his family.

However, the plan did not fully materialize as the victim’s partners could not reach the spot. After waiting for a considerable time, the victim returned to Rawalpindi with the suspect. Subsequently, she lodged an FIR at the police station before returning to Sheikhupura.

Victim Reveals Plan of Margalla Hills Rape

The police clarified that the victim revealed the entire plan and its details in front of the magistrate during the investigation. They identified the group as blackmailers who deceive people and extort money from them. The police also mentioned that two cases have been registered against the purported victim in Sheikhupura and Muridke, and one of the group members has a previous criminal record.

The Islamabad Capital Police urged citizens not to believe in rumors and refrain from spreading unverified information on social media. They emphasized the importance of waiting for the final police report to avoid hindering the investigation and potentially benefiting the culprits.

Salman Sufi, the head of the Prime Minister’s Strategic Reforms Unit, supported the police’s findings, calling the rape case a “hoax” and a “lie and fabrication.” He cautioned against spreading fake news and creating panic on social media.

Previously, the police had reported that they were investigating the incident thoroughly and noted that the victim’s medical report did not show evidence of assault. They also mentioned a friendship between the victim and the suspect, and the victim’s reluctance to cooperate by providing the suspect’s details.
