Islamabad High Court Seeks Detail of Cases Against Asad Umar

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Friday sought details of cases registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) secretary general and former federal minister Asad Umar, who is currently under detention under 3MPO.

The case was heard at Islamabad High Court by Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb. During the hearing, Dr. Babar Awan and Amina Ali Advocate appeared on behalf of Umar and presented their arguments. Advocate Awan requested the court to issue a notice to the parties and adjourn the hearing until Monday. The judge remarked on Babar Awan’s request that if he wanted to enjoy the weekend.

The State Council received the notice and is likely to prepare a response accordingly. The notice calls for the submission of First Information Reports against PTI leader. The court scheduled the next hearing for Tuesday to deliberate on the issue.

Asad Umar had challenged his arrest under MPO in the Islamabad High Court. IG Police, Secretary Interior and other state officials have been made parties in the plea. The former minister stated that as per the Supreme Court’s verdict, arrests cannot be made in the court premises. He argued that during arrest from the court premises, his fundamental human rights were violated.

Umar pleaded with the court to release him. PTI leader was arrested from the premises of Islamabad High Court on 10 May.
