ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday to conduct local bodies elections in the capital city of Pakistan on Saturday and declared the earlier notification of the ECP as null and void on the postponement of the elections. The Islamabad High Court issued a short verdict and ordered the ECP to hold the polls in Islamabad.

The case was heard by Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir.  The Election Commission submitted a detailed reply to the court.  The petition was filed by PTI, Jamaat-i-Islami against the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision to postpone elections in Islamabad.

The short order of the Islamabad High Court said that the ECP is directed to conduct the local bodies polls in Islamabad as per the schedule.

The IHC court also issued directives to the federal government to provide complete support to the ECP for holding the local governments’ polls as mandated by the Constitution of Pakistan.

Earlier, the country’s electrical body had postponed the elections for the time being at the last minute.

After the decision of the Islamabad High Court, the ECP said that local bodies elections will be held in Islamabad as per the schedule after the judgment of the “honorable” high court.
