ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad district and sessions court on Tuesday suspended non-bailable arrest warrants issued for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan in a case pertaining to controversial remarks against a female judge during a rally in the federal capital.

The ruling came after the former premier filed a petition in the court challenging the arrest warrants. His plea was heard by additional sessions judge Faizan Haider Gillani who suspended the warrants till March 16.

Issuance of non-bailable arrest warrants yesterday

On Monday, senior civil judge Rana Mujahid Rahim had issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Khan for repeatedly failing to appear before the court after which a police party from the federal capital flew to Lahore by helicopter to arrest the PTI chief.

Khan had skipped the hearing and filed an exemption plea from physically appearing before the judge, requesting permission to join the court proceedings virtually via video link.

The court dismissed the deposed prime minister’s plea and ordered the police to produce Khan before it by March 29.

Subsequently, the PTI challenged the warrants in the district court, which was taken up by the court of ADSJ Gilani.
