ISLAMABAD: Pakistani authorities are investigating a possible link between a recent blast in Islamabad and a foiled assault on the Federal Constabulary (FC) Headquarters in Peshawar, following statements by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Chief IG Zulfiqar Hameed, according to reports by local media.

The similar use of suicide vests, explosive materials, and entry strategy points to potential cross-border coordination of the attacks.

Investigators have confirmed that three terrorists attempted to enter the FC Headquarters in Peshawar on November 23, carrying roughly 20 kilograms of explosives distributed across suicide jackets.

Security forces thwarted the attack, killing the terrorists. Three FC personnel were martyred in the attack.

According to the Bomb Disposal Unit report, each jacket contained between 6 to 7 kilograms of explosives.

Fragments, primacord, ball bearings, and wires recovered from the site suggest the blast could have destroyed within a 30-meter radius.

Investigators noted that all three attackers arrived on a single motorcycle and attempted to enter following an initial blast, indicating tactical coordination.

“The threads of the Islamabad blast are being linked with the attack on the FC Headquarters,” IG Hameed said.

“In both attacks, the explosive material and strategy to access the targeted location were similar.

There is also a similarity in terrorists’ access to the suicide vests. It seems an organised gang is facilitating terrorists to reach the target”.

Authorities have reinforced security in Islamabad and other major cities, with checkpoints, police screening of public transport, and enhanced protection of government and sensitive installations.
