ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Azam Swati on Friday in the judicial complex clashes case.

Earlier, a pre-arrest bail application was filed on behalf of the PTI leader Azam Swati who also appeared in the court along with his lawyer Babar Awan.

Babar Awan maintained that his client Azam Khan was named in the FIR on political grounds, and the case was registered under a calculated plan, which does not justify the imposition of a terrorism provision.

Awan pleaded to the court that his client was not even present at the scene during the incident; therefore, his bail should be approved.

The court then granted bail to Azam Swati on a surety bond of Rs 50,000 and adjourned the hearing of the case till April 5.

Azam Swati appears before court

Last Wednesday, PTI Chairman Imran Khan, other leaders, and over 300 PTI workers were booked by police in a case of terrorism for setting government vehicles on fire, attacking cops, and snatching away their official weapons amid clashes between PTI workers and police last Saturday (March 18).

The day PTI Chairman and his workers (about 4000) reached the G-11 Judicial Complex to appear before a district and sessions court in the Toshakhana case.

However, the activists and police were engaged in fierce clashes outside the complex as the workers wanted to escort their chief onto the court premises, but the police did not permit them to do so because of security arrangements.

Meanwhile, in a separate hearing, the ATC court also granted bail to other PTI leaders and over 60 PTI workers in the Judicial Complex clash incident.
