ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday rejected a statement by the Afghan foreign ministry about the political situation in the South Asian country, asking the Afghan Interim Government to focus on fixing its own domestic issues instead of lecturing a democratic nation.

In a statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, rejected the “frivolous” remarks made by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan on Sunday calling it an “unacceptable” and “deplorable” interference in the domestic matters of Pakistan.

“Instead of lecturing a democratic nation, the interim government of Afghanistan should focus on fixing its own domestic issues; prioritize inclusivity; and be responsive to needs and aspirations of its own people including the right to education for girls and women rather than curtailing their rights through misguided interpretation of religion,” Baloch said.

She added Kabul should also deliver on the commitments given to the world by denying space to terror groups which were seriously threatening security and peace in the neighbouring nations; and by preventing Afghanistan from becoming once again the centre of international terrorism.

She reiterated that Islamabad remained committed to peace, cooperation and dialogue in the region and expected all nations, including Afghanistan, to adhere to the basic norms of responsible global conduct and interstate ties.
