ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said Friday that no one in the government suggested Finance Minister Ishaq Dar’s name for the slot of caretaker prime minister.
In his talk with a private news channel, the interior minister said that “Neither was Ishaq Dar’s name suggested, nor was it rejected. It can be a rumor.”
He said that discussions were underway about whether a politician or a bureaucrat should be appointed as the caretaker prime minister.
He said that the government intended to appoint a person acceptable to all stakeholders.
Earlier this week rumors that Ishaq Dar was a potential candidate for the coveted began to circulate. However, neither he nor any other Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader rejected the rumors.
Planning Minister and a senior leader of the PML-N Ahsan Iqbal had said that Ishaq Dar could be appointed as the caretaker PM. But after the Pakistan People Party’s objections and rejection of the report, PML-N seemed backtracked as Defense Minister Khawaja Asif also denied the reports.
