SYDNEY: Australian actor Liam Hemsworth said on Monday he is “incredibly excited” about his engagement to Australian model Gabriella Brooks, confirming to US broadcaster Today that he proposed “a few months ago” while keeping details of the proposal private.
Hemsworth, 35, told Today host Savannah Guthrie the couple were “super excited” and described the period as “a happy time in my life.”
The actor joked that, although he recently holidayed in the Maldives after finishing filming on The Witcher, the engagement did not take place there. “We went there recently… But no, we’re super excited,” he said.
Brooks, 29, revealed the engagement on 12 September in an Instagram post showing a close-up of a diamond ring alongside black-and-white photos of the couple.
The pair made a low-key red carpet appearance as fiancés on 23 October at the London premiere of The Witcher season four, where they wore coordinated navy outfits.
Long-running, private relationship
Hemsworth and Brooks were first linked in 2019 and reportedly quarantined together during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Media outlets including Us Weekly and E! News have cited unnamed sources who describe the relationship as serious and characterise Hemsworth as ready for marriage once confident in the match.
An anonymous source told Us Weekly at the time that Hemsworth “looks up to his brothers and would love to one day also have that long-lasting marriage with a partner.”
Brooks has described the couple’s relationship as private and “sacred” in past interviews, telling Stellar magazine in 2021 that she values keeping their personal life out of the spotlight.
Hemsworth’s past marriage noted
The engagement will mark Hemsworth’s second marriage. He was briefly married to pop star Miley Cyrus from December 2018 until their separation in August 2019; their divorce was finalised in January 2020.
Media coverage of Hemsworth’s current engagement has contrasted his private relationship with Brooks against the highly publicised nature of his previous marriage.

Speaking candidly about the engagement on Today’s 27 October programme, Hemsworth reflected on his excitement but declined to give further specifics about the proposal.
“I’m incredibly excited. I did it a few months ago,” he told Guthrie, adding that the couple were enjoying a “happy time in life.”
The couple have kept most details of their relationship private, occasionally sharing family moments on social media.
Brooks’s Instagram announcement and the recent public appearance in London appear to be their first widely noted public acknowledgements since the engagement news. There has been no public confirmation of wedding plans.
