LOS ANGELES: Pop star and actor Jennifer Lopez has, according to tabloid reports, turned to a range of spiritual and occult practices in an apparent bid to rekindle her relationship with ex-husband Ben Affleck, less than a year after their divorce was finalised.
Radar Online reported that the 56-year-old is said to be spending heavily on rituals and alternative therapies — from tarot readings and chakra alignments to space clearing — and has allegedly enlisted a Santería practitioner, named by a former makeup artist source as Merle Gonzalez, to perform voodoo rituals.
The claims were made to Radar Online and repeat unnamed insiders’ accounts; neither Lopez nor Affleck has publicly confirmed the reports.
Lopez’s love story
The tabloid quoted an unnamed insider as saying Lopez is “refusing to accept that this is the end” of her relationship with Affleck and is “convinced there is more to their story”.
The source added that she will “not let go”, and suggested she believes rituals such as burning sage and moon-time chanting might bring Affleck back.
Radar Online also reported Lopez remains living in the couple’s former mansion, which has been on the market for about a year.
Real-estate experts cited by the outlet said the asking price would likely need to be cut by about 15 per cent to attract buyers; the report claimed Affleck would not object to a reduction, while Lopez would resist.
Past and present context
Lopez and Affleck rekindled a relationship in 2021 after breaking off an engagement in 2004, married in 2022 and filed for divorce in 2024.
Their divorce was finalised in January 2025, court records and media reports show.
Reports of Lopez’s alleged recourse to spiritual practices follow frequent public commentary by the singer-actress about her past relationships.
In a recent interview on The Howard Stern Show, Lopez said past partners had given her material things but had not truly loved her, comments that have since drawn responses from ex-partners.
Ex-husband responds
Ojani Noa, Lopez’s first husband, took to Instagram to rebut her remarks, accusing Lopez of infidelity during their brief marriage and urging her to “stop playing the victim”.
Noa said he had been faithful and criticised Lopez for choosing fame over their relationship. His comments were carried on social media and have been reported in US outlets.
Some outlets have suggested the couple appeared friendly at the premiere of Lopez’s film Kiss of the Spider Woman on 6 October, and Radar Online said friends of Affleck are concerned he may reconcile with Lopez.
There is no independent confirmation that Affleck shares Lopez’s reported interest in reconciling.
