Iraqi PM Highlights South Korean Participation in Infrastructure Projects

NEW YORK: Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, during a meeting with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has said that Seoul is constructing Baghdad’s largest infrastructure projects, Iraqi media reported on Friday.

During their meeting in New York on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, both leaders discussed bilateral cooperation and enhanced partnership.

Prime Minister Al-Sudani lauded South Korea’s positive stance toward Iraq and its support in fight against terrorism.

He expressed Iraq’s willingness to boost its ties and and partnership with South Korea, particularly noting that some of Iraq’s largest infrastructure projects are being carried out by reputable South Korean companies.

Al-Sudani also highlighted the strategic and vital “Development Road Project,” which aims to connect the Gulf to Europe through Turkey.

He emphasized the highlighted investment opportunities along this route and the prospects of establishing industrial zones along its path. He invited South Korean companies to exploit these opportunities.

President Yoon Suk Yeol in his views reaffirmed South Korea’s commitment to enhance bilateral relations and cooperation with Iraq.

He said South Korean companies are eager to contribute to Iraq’s reconstruction efforts. President Yoon Suk Yeol said that a South Korean economic delegation would soon visit Iraq to explore economic opportunities.
