BAGHDAD: An Iraqi militia on Monday claimed to target a US-controlled al-Tanf military base in Syria using drones near the borders with Iraq and Jordan.

The group, called “the Revolutionaries” (al-Thawrayoun), in a post on the social media platform, Telegram said that it targeted the base on Sunday night. The group vowed to continue attacks until US forces leave Iraq.

However, the US military has not confirmed the attack. A US military official told media that the Pentagon had no intelligence or operational reports supporting an attack on the US base at al-Tanf.

According to a report by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the US-led coalition forces shot down a drone near the border of Iraq, Syria, and Jordan, near the al-Tanf base.

Earlier on Sunday, explosions were heard at the US-controlled al-Omar oil field base in Syria’s Deir ez-Zur province. The US Central Command has not yet issued a statement on the issue.

The Revolutionaries group has claimed responsibility for several attacks on US bases in Syria and Iraq.

Analysts say that there are divisions within the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a coalition of armed factions against the United States. Some factions, such as Kataib Hezbollah, have recently denounced Israel’s strikes on Iranian targets.

The group stated that “aggression against Iran represents a serious violation that should not go unanswered” and that America “must pay for its recklessness.” It also warned that if Israel did not stop its aggression it would have to pay a heavy price.
