BAGHDAD: Prime Minister of Iraq has said that his country is in touch with the United States to settle down outstanding dues of $10 billion against Iranian gas imports.
Iraq is using Iranian for electricity generation, but US sanctions on Iranian oil and gas restrict Baghdad from paying for its imports.
The government of Iraq wants these payments to be made through banking channels.
Iraqi Premier Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani told the media that his country is in touch with the US concerning unpaid bills, which have fallen to $10 billion.
He added a delegation comprising officials from the Central Bank of Iraq and the Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) went to Oman on Tuesday to find a formula for transferring these funds to Oman in agreement with the US.

Meanwhile, the United States State Department Spokesman Matthew Miller had said some funds could be transferred through Oman.
On July 11 PM, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani said that Iraq would start paying for Iranian gas with oil.
