BAGHDAD, Iraq: Iraq has formally condemned Israel’s use of Iraqi airspace to carry out an attack on Iran, describing it as a serious breach of Iraqi sovereignty.
In a protest letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the UN Security Council, the Iraqi government criticized what it called “the Zionist entity’s blatant violation” of its airspace, reports AFP.
According to Iraqi government spokesman Bassim Alawadi, the letter strongly condemns Israel’s actions, asserting that the airspace incursion occurred on October 26 and targeted sites within neighboring Iran.
The statement underscores Iraq’s commitment to defending its airspace and upholding regional stability, calling on the international community to recognize the gravity of such violations and to take necessary actions.
The protest reflects Iraq’s stance on preserving its neutrality and sovereignty in regional conflicts, emphasizing its position against the use of Iraqi territory or airspace for aggressive acts against neighboring countries.
Baghdad’s move highlights rising regional tensions and Iraq’s call for international oversight to prevent further escalations.
