Iran’s Raisi Says Israel Will Pay for Assassinating IRGC Commander in Syria

TEHRAN: Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi while extending his condolences over the killing of a senior commander of IRGC in an Israeli airstrike in Syria, said that Tel Aviv will definitely pay for this crime, Iranian state media reported on Monday.

Seyyed Razi Mousavi, commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in Syria, was killed in the Israeli strike on the Zainabiyah district of Damascus earlier on Monday.

Israel has so far made no comments on the indecent, which has repeatedly said it will not allow Iran to enhance its presence in Syria.

President Ebrahim Raisi has stated that the IRGC member was killed while serving as an advisor for the resistance front, defending holy shrines in Syria.

The President said that the assassination of Iranian commander shows the frustration and weakness of the Israel stressing that the Israel will definitely pay for this crime.

Moussavi killed in a missile attack: IRGC

The IRGC in a statement said Moussavi was killed in a missile attack and also vowed to avenge his killing.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, has reported Israeli targets positions used by Iranian groups and by Hezbollah in the Sayyida Zeinab area.

Since Syria’s civil war started in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of air strikes on its northern neighbor, primarily targeting Hezbollah fighters as well as Syrian army positions.

On December 2, the IRGC said Israel had killed two of its members in Syria, where the force said they had been on an advisory mission, without giving further details.

Israel has increased attacks against Hezbollah since the start of its war with Hamas in Gaza- on October 7.
