TEHRAN: Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi has emphasized the global call for a “just” ruling from the United Nations’ International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the genocide case against Israel.
Speaking at a conference in Tehran focused on Islamic unity concerning Gaza, President Raisi urged the legal experts of the court to answer to God, the global conscience, history, and future generations.
Addressing religious figures from the region, President Raisi stated, “People around the globe will appreciate a just verdict. But suppose the lawyers allow their hands to shake and be influenced by the strength of the Americans and by wealth and power. In that case, they must answer for it.” He underscored the importance of unity among Muslim countries in the region, asserting that a lack of unity has allowed Israel to continue “crimes” in Gaza.
Namibia Condemns Germany for Supporting Israel in Genocide Case
Meanwhile, Namibia condemned Germany for supporting Israel in the genocide case at the ICJ, initiated by South Africa. Namibian President Hage Geingob criticized Germany’s decision, describing it as a “shocking” move to defend “genocidal and gruesome acts of the Israeli government against innocent civilians in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian Territories.” Geingob highlighted Germany’s historical role in committing the first genocide of the 20th century in Namibia between 1904 and 1908.
Meanwhile, South Africa’s legal team, after participating in the ICJ hearings on Thursday and Friday, has returned home. Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, a lawyer on the team, addressed reporters at OR Tambo airport, describing the case as a “very crucial turning point” in examining Israel’s actions in Gaza through a “legal lens.” He emphasized that the overall struggle of the Palestinian people would continue, expressing humility in contributing to the Palestinian cause through legal avenues.
