TEHRAN: President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, on Sunday, nominated Seyyed Abbas Araghchi as the new foreign minister of the country.
According to Iranian state media Masoud Pezeshkian, has presented the names of his cabinet ministers to the Iranian Parliament (Majles).
The parliament will start debates on President Pezeshkian’s proposed cabinet members as of next Saturday (August 17). Based on the schedule, the debates on the proposed cabinet will last four days during two regular shifts each day.
Seyyed Abbas Araghchi is an experienced diplomat who was chief negotiator in nuclear talks between Tehran and global powers from 2013 to 2021.
He has served as Iran’s ambassador to Finland and Japan and held the role of deputy foreign minister for Asia-Pacific for two years before becoming spokesperson of the foreign ministry in 2013 for a short period.
He has a PhD in Political Thought from the University of Kent.
