ISLAMABAD: The newly appointed Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri-Moghaddam, paid a courtesy visit to the caretaker minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Sami Saeed and discussed bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest.
Senior Joint Secretary Muazzam Ali, Chief Economist Dr. Nadeem Javaid, and Chief Foreign Aid Zaroor Khan were also present at the meeting.
Both sides discussed different avenues of collaboration between the two countries, including bilateral trade, CPEC, and cooperation in economic and energy sectors.
During the meeting, Minister Sami Saeed warmly welcomed the diplomat to Pakistan and extended his felicitation on assuming his role as the Iranian Ambassador to the country.
He emphasized the importance of the long-standing ties between Pakistan and Iran and reiterated the commitment to further strengthening these relations.
They also stressed the need to enhance trade and connectivity between the two countries and expressed a mutual desire to increase the bilateral trade volume between Pakistan and Iran.
The ambassador, during the meeting, offered Iran’s cooperation in the energy field, acknowledging the need for energy security for Pakistan.
Minister Saeed lauded this gesture and expressed his keenness to explore opportunities for collaboration in this important sector.
Pakistan, Iran Border Markets
He appreciated the existing border markets between Pakistan and Iran and suggested exploring more avenues of mutual interest and collaboration.
The minister also proposed establishing a mechanism to facilitate smoother trade transactions. They also discussed the western and eastern corridors, with both sides exploring strategies to increase trade through these channels.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both the Iranian envoy and his guest expressing their commitment to working closely towards realizing the mutual goals of increased trade, cooperation, and connectivity between Pakistan and Iran. The potential collaboration in the energy field was underlined as an important step in this direction.
