ISLAMABAD: Iranian President Masood Pezeshkian’s official visit to Pakistan scheduled for 26th and 27th July has been postponed.
New dates of 2nd and 3rd August have now been agreed upon by both countries.
Highly credible diplomatic sources said the visit has been rescheduled at Pakistan’s request due to the absence of Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar from Islamabad.
Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is visiting the United States and has a scheduled meeting with the US Secretary of State Rubio on the 26th in Washington at the State Department.
Pakistan communicated the decision through diplomatic channels to the Islamic Republic of Iran, which accepted and agreed on the new dates.
Iranian President Masood Pezeshkian was due in Islamabad on 26th and 27th July on a state visit, invited by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Prime Minister Sharif extended the invitation during his June visit to Iran.
Revised dates
Sources said that now, through diplomatic channels, both countries have agreed on revised dates, which are 2nd and 3rd August 2025.
Iranian President Masood Pezeshkian will be accompanied by his key cabinet members, including the foreign, interior, and trade ministers, as well as several other top officials.
During his August visit, Iranian President Masood Pezeshkian will meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari separately.
President Zardari will host a banquet in honour of Iranian President Masood Pezeshkian, while a luncheon will be hosted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
A number of MoUs are expected to be signed during his visit, which both sides are still working on.
Iranian President Masood Pezeshkian will also hold meetings with a cross-section of Pakistani society, including religious scholars, media, academia, and parliamentarians, where he will share his thoughts on Pakistan–Iran relations and Iran’s war with Israel.
Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Iran last week and finalised the documents and agenda of talks for Iranian President Masood Pezeshkian’s visit to Pakistan. He also met with President Masood Pezeshkian.
Ambassador Muhammad Mudassir Tipu, who is in constant touch with top Iranian officials to finalise the details of the visit, is expected to arrive in Islamabad ahead of the Iranian President’s visit by the end of July for consultations with the Foreign Office.
