Iranian President Raisi Calls for Expediting Implementation of Agreements with Pakistan

TEHRAN: Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has called for expediting the implementation of trade deals between Iran and Pakistan.

President Raisi made the demand during a meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir who concluded his two-day visit to Iran on Sunday, where he met with several top officials in Tehran.

Raisi also highlighted Iran’s policy to turn the Iran-Pakistan border into a safe one, saying this objective can be achieved through expanding border markets and energy cooperation between the two countries, according to Iranian media.

He added that his government’s policy is to boost ties with Muslim neighbors.

The president said the expanding of trade relations with Pakistan will result in consolidating political ties between the two Muslim brotherly neighbors.

COAS for his part, spoke about security cooperation between Islamabad and Tehran.

General Seyed Asim Munir said the two countries have reached at good deals to boost security along their border.

He said that Pakistan has focused its efforts on accelerating steps that are underway to tighten lasting security.

COAS also appreciated Iran’s policy to strengthen ties with neighbors including Pakistan, terming this a highly valuable opportunity for the Muslim world.

Earlier, General Asim Munir met with Iranian Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ (IRFC) Commander in chief General Hossein Salami, and they discussed different security issues.

He also held a detailed meeting with the Iranian Chief of General Staff of Armed Forces (CGSAC) Major General Mohammad Bagheri and discussed matters related with security.

In the meeting, the military commanders on both sides agreed that terrorism was a common threat to the region in general and both countries in particular, according to Pakistani military media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
