TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in a meeting with Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Nuriddin Ismoilov on Tuesday vowed to strengthen relations between Tehran and Tashkent.
Nuriddin Ismoilov was in Tehran for the 14th presidential inauguration ceremony.
During their meeting, Pezeshkian underscored the importance of neighboring countries in Iran’s foreign policy framework and highlighted Uzbekistan’s significant role in this context. He described the relationship between Tehran and Tashkent as deeply rooted in shared cultural and historical connections.
“The 14th government of Iran is resolute in its commitment to enhancing our ties with Uzbekistan, especially in areas such as trade, economy, and cultural exchange,” Pezeshkian stated. He emphasized that despite any challenges, the resolve to strengthen these relations remains unwavering.
Pezeshkian pointed to the various bilateral agreements as a testament to the growing partnership between the two countries. He reiterated the current administration’s dedication to upholding these agreements and achieving the mutual goals outlined in them.
The Iranian President also advocated for a more robust parliamentary relationship, suggesting that increased collaboration between the legislative bodies of Iran and Uzbekistan would significantly support government efforts to bolster bilateral ties. He called for a more active role of the legislative branches in both nations to facilitate these objectives.
Ismoilov extended congratulations to Pezeshkian on his election victory and reiterated Uzbekistan’s interest in furthering cooperation with Iran. He expressed hope that the implementation of existing agreements would strengthen the partnership between the two countries.
Ismoilov underscored Uzbekistan’s view of Iran as a key and strategic regional partner. He voiced optimism that ongoing and future collaborations will enhance bilateral relations, contributing to mutual growth and stability.
