DUBAI: Iran on Wednesday declared its military’s readiness to confront any potential attack by Israel, with the air force emphasizing its preparedness for action, amidst escalating tensions between the two nations. The announcement comes in the wake of Iran’s recent direct attack on Israel and amid heightened concerns of retaliatory strikes.

Iran’s navy commander said that Iranian commercial vessels are being escorted to the Red Sea, underscoring the nation’s commitment to safeguarding its maritime interests. This statement follows Iran’s first-ever direct assault on Israel over the weekend, in retaliation for an Israeli strike on an Iranian diplomatic compound in Damascus earlier in April.

Israeli authorities have signaled their intent to retaliate, with the country’s war cabinet convening to deliberate on potential courses of action. In response, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi issued a stern warning during a parade commemorating Army Day, asserting that any attack by Israel on Iranian soil would be met with a severe response.

The commander of the Iran Air Force emphasized the air force’s state of preparedness to counter Israeli aggression. Brig. Gen. Amir Vahedi highlighted the readiness of Iranian warplanes, including Russian-made Sukhoi-24s, to respond effectively to any hostile actions from Israel.

Admiral Shahram Irani announced that the Iranian Navy is actively escorting Iranian commercial ships to the Red Sea, aiming to secure vital maritime routes. Irani also expressed Tehran’s willingness to provide escort services to vessels from other countries, showcasing Iran’s commitment to regional maritime security.
