TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian is scheduled to embark on a one-day visit to Saudi Arabia in the near future, where he will hold talks with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan in Riyadh. The talks will center around bilateral matters, with an emphasis on revitalizing cooperation across various domains.
In a statement issued from Tehran, Iranian Foreign Minister Abdollahian affirmed the imminent exchange of ambassadors between Saudi Arabia and Iran. He stated, “In the coming days, our ambassador will go to Saudi Arabia, and the ambassador of Saudi Arabia will come to Tehran.” This move signifies a significant step toward enhancing diplomatic ties after a gap of nearly seven years.
Purpose of Iranian Foreign Minister’s Visit to Riyadh
During his weekly press conference, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani shed light on the purpose of Abdollahian’s visit to Riyadh. Kanaani highlighted that the discussions will encompass a range of bilateral issues, with a particular focus on rejuvenating collaboration across diverse sectors. He expressed optimism, stating, “God willing, we will be able to reach better results in terms of setting goals of the two countries and making advancements in the level of bilateral relations.”
The backdrop to this visit is the historic agreement signed on March 10 between Saudi Arabia and Iran, facilitated by China, marking the resumption of diplomatic relations following a prolonged hiatus. The joint statement underscored a commitment to respecting the sovereignty of nations and refraining from interference in their internal affairs.
As part of this reconciliation, the activation of all existing joint agreements between Saudi Arabia and Iran has been confirmed. These encompass areas of security cooperation, as well as agreements spanning economy, trade, investment, technology, science, culture, sports, and youth affairs.
