ISLAMABAD: Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif here in Islamabad on Thursday and discussed bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest.
Highlighting the close ties between the two countries, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further consolidate these relations, with a special focus on expanding cooperation in the economic domain.
Recalling the joint inauguration with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi of the Mand-Pishin border marketplace in May, the premier stressed that initiatives aimed at economic prosperity of the border areas, were a tangible manifestation of the mutual priority to collectively work for the betterment of the two peoples.
Pakistan, Iran to Utilize Unique Geographical Location
Noting that President Raisi’s policy of ‘Neighborhood First’ was fully aligned with his vision of a secure, interconnected, and prosperous region, the prime minister stressed the importance for Pakistan and Iran utilizing their unique geographical location to promote goals of regional peace and prosperity, through greater trade and enhanced regional connectivity.
The Prime Minister added that the Economic Cooperation Organization was uniquely placed to play this important role.
Expressing concerns at the rising trend of Islamophobia and hatred against Muslims, the prime minister highlighted Pakistan’s firm resolve to work with other Islamic nations, including Iran, in articulating a unified view against such disappointing acts aimed at sowing divisions and disharmony within communities and between societies.
Pakistan-Iran ties are characterized by frequent exchanges at the leadership level, convergence of views on important regional and global matters, and strengthened cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.
