BEIRUT: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has arrived in Beirut on Friday, Lebanese state media reported.
Reuters reported that an Iranian-flagged plane landing at Beirut international airport, just hours after an air strikes hit outside the airport outside overnight.
According to media reports, the Iranian Foreign Minister is set to meet Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and speaker of parliament Nabih Berri.
On the other hand, Hezbollah claimed attack on military base in northern Israel, Al-Jazeera reported on Friday. The group said its fighters bombed the Ilania military base in Israel with rockets.
A Hezbollah statement on social media said that the strike was carried out at 10:20am in reply to current Israeli strikes on the Lebanese and Palestinian people.
Al-Jazeera also reported that Israel has confirms Hezbollah strike on Israel.
Earlier media reported that an Israeli airstrike on Friday targeted the main road connecting Lebanon and Syria, effectively severing the critical international route.
The strike hit the Masnaa area, a key humanitarian crossing used by thousands of Lebanese fleeing the war, according to Lebanon’s Transport Minister, Ali Hamieh.
The strike comes amidst rising tensions as Hezbollah and Israel are at war, further complicating the situation for the many Syrian refugees residing in Lebanon.
Biden and Iran-Israel Conflict
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden said that he does not expect any immediate Israeli attacks against Iran, as the region tensely awaits a reply to Tehran’s large-scale missile attack on Israel. He said, “First of all, we don’t ‘allow’ Israel; we advise Israel. And there is nothing going to happen today.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Iran fired around 200 missiles at Israel in retaliation to the killing of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah along with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards commander in an Israeli strike in Beirut. This was Iran’s second direct strike on Israel.
