BÜRGENSTOCK, Switzerland: A high-level Iranian delegation has arrived in Switzerland ahead of crucial talks with the United States aimed at advancing the implementation of a Pakistan-mediated agreement intended to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East.
According to state media, the delegation — led by senior Iranian political figures including Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi — landed in Zurich late Saturday night before travelling to the Bürgenstock resort for negotiations.

The Swiss authorities confirmed the arrival, stating on social media that they welcomed the Iranian delegation to Switzerland and noted that the talks are linked to the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between United States and Iran. The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs described Bürgenstock as a discreet venue for facilitating sensitive diplomatic engagement.

The negotiations are part of a broader diplomatic framework brokered by Pakistan, which has been acting as mediator between Tehran and Washington. Islamabad has said the discussions aim to ensure compliance with commitments under the MoU and stabilise regional tensions.
Iranian officials, speaking through state media, warned that the agreement’s progress depends on reciprocal implementation by all parties. A spokesperson was quoted as saying that delays in fulfilling obligations could place the entire understanding at risk.
The US delegation is expected to include senior envoys, with Vice President JD Vance set to lead the American team, alongside officials such as Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, according to US media outlet Axios.
Washington has expressed cautious optimism about the talks, with Vice President Vance stating in an interview that discussions with Iran “are going well” and could begin formally on Sunday.
The negotiations come amid a fragile regional situation, with earlier tensions in Lebanon influencing the timing of the diplomatic process. Analysts say the Swiss-hosted talks could play a key role in determining whether the ceasefire framework linked to the MoU holds.
The Swiss government, through its foreign ministry, reiterated its support for providing a neutral and secure setting for international dialogue, while emphasising its role as host rather than participant.
Pakistan’s latest diplomatic engagement is intended to help prevent setbacks during the negotiations and preserve progress achieved through months of mediation, the report added. The Islamabad MoU signed on Thursday has opened a new phase in US-Iran engagement, with negotiators now preparing for detailed discussions.
