RIYADH: Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi strongly condemned the ongoing Iranian attacks on GCC member states, describing them as cowardly and treacherous.

He stated that these attacks have targeted civilian and diplomatic facilities, including most recently the United States embassies in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, in clear violation of international law and United Nations conventions protecting diplomatic missions, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.

Albudaiwi noted that the aggression also extends to civilian and residential areas in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, and Qatar.

He emphasised that these attacks demonstrate Iran’s hostile intentions toward GCC states and its ongoing efforts to undermine regional and global security and stability.

Albudaiwi stressed that targeting GCC territories is unacceptable under any circumstances and called on Iran to immediately halt its aggressive actions.

Reaffirming unity among member states, he reiterated that all GCC countries stand together in full solidarity to defend their sovereignty, security, and national interests in the face of these attacks.

Earlier, Saudi Arabia warned that repetition of “unjustified attacks” by Iran “blatantly” violates its sovereignty and will push the region toward further escalation.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expresses its rejection and condemnation in the strongest terms of the flagrant Iranian attack that targeted the US Embassy building in Riyadh,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

Regional hostilities have intensified in recent days following US and Israeli strikes on Iran, which have triggered waves of retaliatory drone and missile attacks across the Gulf.

Several countries in the region have heightened security around diplomatic facilities and key infrastructure amid concerns of further spillover.
