TEHRAN: The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) initiated extensive military drills under the codename “Devotees of the Velayat Sanctuary” on Sunday, showcasing its defensive power by deploying manned and unmanned aircraft in simulated battlefield scenarios.
The nationwide military exercise, which began in the Central province of Esfahan, was ordered by Commander of the Iranian Army’s Air Force, Brigadier General Hamid Vahedi. The drills aim to enhance the country’s defense readiness while conveying a message of “friendship, peace, and calm” to the region.
Brig. Gen. Vahedi stated that a total of 92 aircraft, including various fighter jets, interceptor aircraft, bombers, and unmanned aerial vehicles, would be employed in the exercise. The Iranian Air Force is set to conduct a wide range of operations during the war game, including reconnaissance and aerial imaging, air and ground target detonation, electronic warfare, civil defense tactics, and testing of modern systems.
Moreover, the units will demonstrate diverse combat tactics and employ drones for pinpoint accurate standoff attack operations against specified targets.
Iran’s Frequent Military Exercises
Iran has conducted numerous military exercises in recent years in response to perceived military threats from foreign adversaries. The country adheres to a military doctrine that prioritizes defense, emphasizing that its armed capabilities are solely meant for defensive purposes.
Iranian military experts and technicians have made significant strides in manufacturing indigenous equipment, achieving self-sufficiency in the weaponry sphere. Iranian officials have consistently asserted that the country’s defense capabilities, including its missile and drone power, are solely for defensive purposes and will not be subject to negotiation.
