TEHRAN: Iran on Monday strongly warned the United States and the United Kingdom to immediately stop their military actions in Yemen, following recent strikes on Houthi rebel targets. The strikes come in response to weeks of Houthi attacks on vessels in the Red Sea.

The US and Britain claim solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, escalating concerns that the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group Hamas could engulf the broader region.

During a press conference in Tehran alongside his Indian counterpart, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian urged the US and Britain to immediately end the war in Yemen. He also called on the United States and Israel to halt their actions in Gaza, asserting that Houthi rebels would block Israeli ships or those bound for Israeli ports as long as the conflict continued.

Iran Denounces Strikes on Yemen as “Arbitrary” and “Violation” of International Law

The strikes on Yemen have been denounced by Iran as “arbitrary” and a “violation” of international law. The Houthi rebels’ attacks in the Red Sea have disrupted vital trade routes, leading to the rerouting of vessels and impacting the global economy.

Washington has accused Iran of being deeply involved in the Houthi attacks, an assertion Tehran denies. Britain’s Foreign Minister, David Cameron, has labeled Iran as a “malign actor in the region.” Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi stated that Iran views it as its duty to support resistance groups but emphasized their independence in decision-making.

The situation raises concerns about the broader implications for peace and security in the Middle East.
