TASHKENT: Representatives from Iran, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan engaged in a productive meeting in Tashkent on Tuesday, discussing the potential establishment of an international transit corridor. The meeting, conducted via video conference, brought together officials from the Ministry of Transportation of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran.
During the conference, the participants deliberated on various issues related to the creation of an international transportation and transit corridor. One of the primary focuses was expediting the signing of an agreement between the governments of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Iran, which would pave the way for the corridor’s development.
Additionally, the representatives explored ways to reduce international road transport fares by utilizing Iran’s soil as part of the transit route. They emphasized the significance of improving logistical efficiency and optimizing the movement of goods through the region.
Particular attention was given to the potential use of the ports of “Bandar Abbas” and “Chabahar” for facilitating the export and import of goods. These ports hold strategic importance for enhancing trade and connectivity in the region, and the representatives sought to leverage their capacities to promote economic cooperation.
Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Iran Transit Corridor
Furthermore, the parties discussed the development of the “Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Iran” international transport corridor. The corridor’s expansion was met with special attention, as it has the potential to strengthen regional connectivity and boost trade ties among the participating nations.
The tripartite meeting reflects the shared commitment of Iran, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan to foster closer economic and logistical collaboration.
