TEHRAN: Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned the Australian ambassador in Tehran, Ian McConville, on Sunday to protest what it described as Australia’s “biased and unjustified” position regarding the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, Iranian news agency Tasnim reported.

The Iranian government accused Australia of siding with Israel and ignoring Iran’s right to defend itself against Israeli aggression, according to a report by the Iranian news agency Tasnim.

The move follows Tehran’s missile attack against Israeli targets on Tuesday, which Iran described as a retaliatory measure in response to the killing of leaders from Iran-allied groups. Israel has vowed to respond to the attack.

Ali Asghar Mohammadi, Director General of the East Asia and Oceania Department at the Iranian Foreign Ministry, summoned McConville to express Iran’s discontent with Australia’s stance on the conflict.

Mohammadi accused Australia of maintaining a double standard by remaining silent on Israel’s aggressive actions in Gaza and Lebanon, including the assassination of several key figures such as Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah of Hezbollah, and Brigadier General Abbas Nilforushan of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Mohammadi defended Iran’s missile strikes on Israel as a legitimate act of self-defense aimed at preserving national security and regional stability. He criticized Western countries, including Australia, for failing to take a responsible role in addressing Israel’s escalating violence in Gaza and Lebanon.
