TEHRAN: Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Nasser Kanani, stated on Monday that recent attacks on US forces in Iraq and other parts of the region were a direct consequence of “wrong American policies.” He particularly pointed to US support for Israel in its ongoing brutalities against innocent Palestinians in Gaza as a major source of tension.

According to Kanani, the attacks on American bases, especially in Iraq, were carried out by groups vehemently opposed to the US presence in the region and strongly critical of US support for Israeli actions. Kanani emphasized, “You reap what you sow,” and urged the United States to cease its support for Israel.

Iran’s Chief of Staff, Mohammad Bagheri, also commented on the situation, noting that Hamas was prepared for a potential Israeli ground attack. Meanwhile, in Tehran, protesters gathered at a synagogue and demanded an immediate ceasefire. The protestors condemned “the massacre of children, women, and defenseless people” in the Gaza Strip.

Iran Warns of Possible Expansion of Israel-Hamas Conflict

Iran has consistently warned about the possibility of the Hamas-Israel conflict expanding to other parts of the region. The White House, in response, accused Tehran of actively facilitating attacks on US forces in the Middle East.

In a recent move, the US military announced that it had struck two facilities in eastern Syria, escalating tensions between the two nations.

President Ebrahim Raisi emphasized Iran’s support for resistance groups but underlined that these groups maintained their independence in their decisions and actions. Currently, the United States maintains approximately 2,500 troops in Iraq and around 900 in Syria as part of efforts to prevent the resurgence of extremist groups.
