ISLAMABAD/TEHRAN: Iran telecommunications infrastructure company said on Friday, it foiled a cyberattack on the central bank.
Anonymous and other international hacking groups threatened in October to launch cyber attacks on Iranian institutions in support of anti-Iran government protests.
Cyber attack on central bank
According to the Arab News, Amir Mohammadzadeh Lajevardi, head of the Infrastructure Communications Company, said that the central bank was targeted by distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on Thursday night, the official the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) quoted him as saying.
DDoS attacks attempt to the cripple servers by overwhelming them with Internet traffic.
“These days, largest volume of foreigner attacks is against banks and financial institutions, Internet providers, and communications infrastructures, which have been repelled,” Lajevardi said. IRNA gave no further information. The central bank said in September that the cyberattack briefly took its website offline.
