  • No radiation leaks or impacts have been reported at Natanz, Fordow, Isfahan, or Bushehr nuclear facilities, according to Iranian authorities

ISLAMABAD: International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) DG Rafael Mariano Grossi has stated that the situation in Iran is deeply concerning, stressing “nuclear facilities must never be attacked.”

Iranian authorities have informed the IAEA that the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant was not targeted in Friday’s Israeli airstrikes, and that no increase in radiation levels has been observed at the Natanz uranium enrichment site, which was among the confirmed targets.

The assurance came as the IAEA officially confirmed Israeli strikes hit the Natanz nuclear facility, as part of a broader military campaign reportedly named Operation Rising Lion. According to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, the agency is “closely monitoring the deeply concerning situation” and remains in direct contact with Iranian authorities and its on-site inspectors.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Grossi said, “The Agency can confirm the Natanz site among targets. We are in contact with Iranian authorities regarding radiation levels and with our inspectors in the country.”

The UN nuclear watchdog noted that the strikes extended beyond nuclear facilities to include ballistic missile factories and military commanders. It reiterated that its primary concern remains the safety and security of nuclear sites and personnel in the region.

Further updates from Iranian officials, cited by Grossi, indicate that the Isfahan nuclear site and the Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant were not impacted.
