UNITED NATIONS: Iran has declared that it is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty if attacked by Israel, following recent threats from Israeli officials in response to the firing of approximately 200 missiles.

These missiles were launched by Iran on October 1 in retaliation for the killing of its key allies, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and an Iranian general. In response, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant vowed a “deadly, precise, and surprising” retaliation.

Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, stated that while Iran does not seek war or escalation, it will exercise its right to self-defense if necessary, in accordance with international law. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that while Iran does not want war, it is prepared for any scenario.

These developments come amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran-allied Palestinian militant group Hamas, which has expanded to involve Lebanon. Iran’s warnings highlight the rising tensions, as Lebanon faces a potential humanitarian crisis. The international community is being urged to prevent further escalation in the region.
