DUBAI: Iranian prosecutors stand accused of covering up rapes by two officials of the IRGC, Arab news reported on Wednesday.

An internal judicial document stated that the IRGC officials allegedly raped two females, ages 18 and 23, in a vehicle in Iran’s capital Tehran last September, The Guardian newspaper claimed on Wednesday.

The women had been arrested during the protest demonstration that began that month after the death of Mahsa Amini. The females were accused of acting suspiciously and their mobile phones were analyzed for any evidence that they took part in the protest demonstrations.

The document was reportedly leaked to a news channel Iran International. It is the first document to surface and expose a particular case of this nature, although right activists have long suspected that some women detainees were sexually abused by security personnel during the protest demonstration.

Dated Oct. 13, 2022, the document states that two women were assaulted by two male security personnel. The matter came to the attention of prosecutors following one of the IRGC officials called one of the victims following the assault.

She recorded her statement and also filed a complaint. One official was reportedly arrested at his home in Tehran while the second accused was arrested and taken to a police intelligence unit jail.

The leaked document adds that considering the problematic nature of the matter, it is suggested that the necessary order (is) issued for the case to be filed top secret. The Arab news claimed that the document stated that the matter should be closed without any reference to the military organization involved.
