TEHRAN: For the first time since 2016, Iran has announced the appointment of its ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The action coincides with a realignment in the relationship between Iran and Gulf states. The UAE strengthened its ties with Iran in August of last year and announced the return of its ambassador to Tehran, signaling a considerable improvement in their previously tense relations.

In a key development the previous month, Riyadh declared it would resume relations with Tehran in a deal mediated by China, ending years of antagonism between the two countries. This action might ease regional tensions and enhance the Gulf’s security and stability.

Trade and business relationships between Iran and the UAE date back over a century. Reza Ameri, Iran’s recently appointed ambassador, was formerly the director general of the Iranian expatriate’s office at the foreign ministry.
