JERUSALEM: Iran launched over 100 drones towards Israel, and more can be expected, said an Israeli army official on Sunday.
“This evening we’ve identified more than 100 UAV drones launched towards Israel from Iran,” the official said. He expected the drones to be in Israel in the following hours and expected some more waves of drones as time progresses.
The Israeli military said it sounded the alarm in a kibbutz near the Lebanese border early Sunday after an Iranian drone strike hit Israel.
The army said in a statement that sirens had sounded in Kibbutz Snir in northern Israel.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called Iran’s drone and missile attacks on Israel “reckless” late Saturday, adding that Britain “continues to defend Israel’s security.”
His comments came after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard confirmed that it had carried out strikes against Israel in retaliation for a deadly drone attack on the Damascus consulate on April 1.
In a statement, Sunak said: “I condemn in the strongest terms the Iranian regime’s reckless attack against Israel.”
“These strikes risk inflaming tensions and destabilising the region. Iran has once again demonstrated that it is intent on sowing chaos in its own backyard.”
The UK prime minister said that his government will continue to stand up for Israel’s security and that of all their regional partners, including Jordan and Iraq.
“Alongside our allies, we are urgently working to stabilise the situation and prevent further escalation. No one wants to see more bloodshed,” Sunak added.
