DUBAI: Iran executed a man named Bahman Choubi-asl on Monday, the judiciary’s news agency Mizan reported, describing him as “one of the most important spies for Israel in Iran.”
According to Reuters, Tehran and Tel Aviv have been locked in a decades-long shadow war, and Iran has executed numerous individuals it accuses of working with Israel’s Mossad intelligence service.
Mizan said Mossad’s primary aim in recruiting Choubi-asl was to access government institution databases and breach Iranian data centres, while also seeking information on the import routes of electronic equipment.
The judiciary outlet added that the Supreme Court had upheld his conviction and death sentence on charges of “corruption on earth.”
The conflict between Iran and Israel escalated into direct confrontation in June, when Israel struck targets inside Iran in operations that reportedly involved Mossad commandos deployed deep within Iranian territory. Executions of Iranians convicted of spying for Israel have risen sharply this year, with at least 10 carried out in recent months.
