TEHRAN: Iran carried out the execution of four men on Monday, following their conviction for collaborating with Israel to sabotage an Iranian defence site, as reported by the judiciary. The defendants, identified as Mohammad Faramarzi, Mohsen Mazloum, Wafa Azarbar, and Pejman Fatehi, were arrested in July 2022.

They were accused of planning an operation against a Ministry of Defence center in the central province of Isfahan.

The judiciary’s Mizan Online website stated, “The death sentence of four members of a group affiliated with the Zionist spy organization, who were arrested… for plotting a bombing operation in Isfahan, was carried out this morning.”

According to Iran, the individuals had been recruited by Mossad, Israel’s intelligence service, approximately a year and a half before the planned operation. The men underwent training courses in military centers in African countries, where Mossad officers were allegedly present. The death sentences were handed down in September 2023.

In August 2023, Iran claimed to have thwarted a complex Mossad-initiated project to sabotage its ballistic missile industry. Previously, in February, Tehran accused Israel of orchestrating a drone attack on a military site in Isfahan.

The historical backdrop of a shadow war between Iran and Israel spans decades, with Iran consistently accusing Israel and its ally, the United States, of instigating unrest. The execution of the four individuals reflects the ongoing tensions and the deep-seated rivalry between the two nations.
