TEHRAN: Iran’s judiciary has reportedly executed an individual accused of orchestrating a drone attack on a defence ministry site in Isfahan, central Iran, last year.
State media disclosed that the executed person was allegedly planning to detonate explosives at the Ministry of Defence complex under the guidance of a Mossad intelligence officer, Israel’s spy agency.
Details regarding the date of execution and the identity of the accused individual remain unclear at the moment. The incident underscores Iran’s persistent allegations of covert actions by Israeli operatives on its territory, particularly targeting its nuclear facilities and research sites.
Isfahan is home to several key nuclear research installations, including a uranium conversion plant, within Iran’s sanction-affected nuclear program. Iran has previously accused Israel of engaging in sabotage, assassinations of scientists, and cyber-attacks aimed at disrupting its nuclear activities.
The Iranian intelligence ministry had announced in February 2023 that it had arrested individuals allegedly involved in the drone attack on the defence ministry site in Isfahan. This incident further deepens the shadow war between Iran and Israel, characterized by clandestine operations and mutual accusations of espionage and sabotage.
Iran’s assertions of thwarting Mossad-initiated projects and claims of foiled sabotage attempts underscore the heightened tensions and complex geopolitical dynamics in the region. The situation calls for diplomatic efforts and engagement to de-escalate tensions and promote stability in the region.
