TEHRAN: Iran has rejected an accusation from Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati that it was interfering in Beirut’s domestic affairs over remarks attributed to Iran’s speaker of parliament.

“Tehran has never had any intention or (taken any) act that could be suspected of interfering in the domestic affairs of Lebanon,” Iran’s ministry of foreign affairs spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated during a weekly press conference.

“We hold talks with any nation that has an initiative and a proposal to end the aggression and crimes against Lebanon and the genocide in the Gaza Strip,” said Baghaei, saying that there had been a “misunderstanding” about Ghalibaf’s reported comments.

Tehran has in recent days also intensified diplomatic efforts, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visiting multiple regional countries to push for truce in Lebanon and Gaza as well as means to contain the ongoing conflicts.
