TEHRAN: Iran has announced a countrywide two-day public holiday due to extremely hot weather, state media reported.
A spokesperson of the Iranian Government, Ali Bahadori Jahromi said the government offices, schools, and banks will remain shut on Wednesday and Thursday.
Earlier, the Iranian health ministry had warned about the expected increase in mercury across the country.
In recent days, the temperature in Iranian cities rose to around 40 degrees Celsius.

The metrological office predicted that the temperature in Tehran would reach 39 C in the next three days.
On Tuesday the temperature in Ahvaz touched to 50 C.
In recent weeks heat waves have affected large parts of the world.
