TEHRAN: Iran has dismissed a G7 statement urging Tehran to cease its support for Hamas and refrain from actions causing Middle East destabilization. The rejection followed a meeting in Tokyo where foreign ministers from the G7 nations expressed backing for “humanitarian pauses and corridors” amid the Israeli-Hamas conflict.

Since on October 7, Israeli airstrikes have targeting the Gaza Strip that has so far either destroyed or damaged up to one-third of buildings, hundreds of schools and hospitals, and killed 10,800 civilians, mostly children and women.

The G7 also urged Iran to “refrain from providing support for Hamas and taking further actions that destabilize the Middle East, including support for Lebanese Hezbollah and other groups.

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanani, vehemently condemned the G7 statement, emphasizing Iran’s ongoing efforts to halt Israeli military attacks on Gaza’s defenseless citizens. Kanani criticized the G7’s failure to address what he sees as human rights violations and international law breaches by the Zionist regime (Israel) in Gaza.

Iran is categorically denying direct involvement. Iran, however, since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, has not recognized Israel and consistently prioritizes support for the Palestinian cause in its foreign policy.
