TEHRAN: Iran strongly condemned the military actions by the United States and the United Kingdom in Yemen, and said that these strikes are in direct contradiction with the declared intention of avoiding a broader conflict in the Middle East.

Nasser Kanani, the spokesperson for Iran’s foreign ministry, issued a statement on Sunday, expressing concern over the alleged inconsistency in the foreign policies of Washington and London.

Iran Says US and UK Strikes on Yemen to Fuel Chaos

Kanani criticized the airstrikes on Yemen, stating they “fuel chaos, disorder, insecurity, and instability” while backing Israel in its conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The foreign ministry spokesperson emphasized that these actions go against the repeated claims by the US and the UK that they do not seek the expansion of war and conflict in the region.

The strikes on Yemen allegedly targeted Houthi group in response to their attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea. Kanani described these strikes as a “threat to international peace and security,” further intensifying tensions in the already volatile region.

The Houthi group maintain that their attacks are in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, where Israel’s military campaign has faced international criticism. The US military also conducted strikes in Syria and Iraq. Despite these actions, President Biden stated that the United States does not seek a wider conflict in the Middle East.
