TEHRAN: Iran declared on Sunday the successful launch of three satellites into space, marking another milestone in its space program.
The state-run IRNA news agency reported the accomplishment, highlighting the use of Iran’s Simorgh rocket, which has faced setbacks in previous attempts.
While Iran celebrates its space achievements, Western nations, particularly the United States, express concerns.
The West contends that Iran’s space program serves a dual purpose, enhancing both its satellite capabilities and ballistic missile development. The US, referencing a UN Security Council resolution, has urged Tehran to refrain from activities involving ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear weapons. Despite UN sanctions related to Iran’s ballistic missile program expiring last October, apprehensions persist.
The 2023 worldwide threat assessment from the U.S. intelligence community has drawn attention to the potential dual-use nature of Iran’s satellite launch vehicles, expressing worries about the acceleration of its intercontinental ballistic missile capabilities.
