TEHRAN: In response to the recent burning of the Holy Qur’an in Sweden, the second such event in less than a month, the Iranian Foreign Minister has called for an urgent meeting of OIC states.
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made this demand in a telephone conversation with Hussein Ibrahim Taha, the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
He said that the emergency meeting of the foreign ministers of the OIC should be held urgently to address this critical issue.
He noted that if the Swedish government does not take effective action urgently, the Islamic nations should respond solidly to Sweden over this insulting move.
A meeting of the OIC’s foreign ministers will be held, the OIC Secretary General promised while also condemning the offensive act and outlining the calls and actions taken.
The two sides also emphasized the significance of swift and coordinated action by Islamic nations to stop the repetition of such offensive acts.
