ISLAMABAD: Iran Air, the national carrier of Iran, has launched its first-ever flight to Quetta, the capital of Pakistan’s Balochistan province, operating on the Mashhad–Zahedan–Quetta route, according to the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA).

Flight 826 received a ceremonial water cannon salute, marking the airline’s first-ever operation to the capital of Balochistan.

Balochistan Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhel was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony, which was also attended by Iran’s Consul General Ali Reza Rajaei and other dignitaries. The national anthems of both countries were played on the occasion.

The ceremony began with the national anthems of Pakistan and Iran, symbolising the enduring spirit of friendship and cooperation between the two neighboring nations.

In his address, Governor Mandokhel described the launch as a “significant milestone” in deepening bilateral relations, enhancing trade, and promoting cultural exchange between Balochistan and Iran.

“This flight not only enhances people-to-people connectivity but also opens new avenues for tourism, pilgrimage, and commerce,” the Governor said, expressing optimism that the initiative would encourage greater regional integration.

In his remarks, the Consul General of Iran reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening economic and social ties with Pakistan, particularly through improved transport and communication links.

According to official details, Iran Air Flight 826 will now operate a weekly service every Wednesday, arriving in Quetta at 9:30 p.m.

On its inaugural flight, the service brought 30 passengers to Quetta and departed with 120 passengers, reflecting strong public interest in the new route.

A spokesperson for the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) described the launch as “a proud moment for Quetta International Airport,” noting that the new connection will greatly benefit religious pilgrims, business travelers, and families on both sides of the border.

With this addition, Quetta’s air connectivity continues to expand, positioning it as a growing hub for cross-border cooperation and regional development in South and Central Asia.

The launch of Iran Air’s Quetta flight is expected to significantly ease travel for Shia pilgrims from Balochistan, who frequently visit the Iranian cities of Mashhad and Qom.
